HAWORTH AND OXENHOPE DISTRICT BRIDLEWAYS GROUP

FEBRUARY 2005 ISSUE 2

The days are starting to get a little bit longer now. Not long until the endless cold, rain and mud are behind us and we can start to look forward to Springtime and evening riding.

BRIDLEWAYS NEWS

Altar Lane

The council are trying to come up with a solution that will keep the cars out yet allow horses through.

Rights of Way Meeting

There will be a Rights of Way meeting on 1st March at 7.30pm at the Lamb, Oxenhope (upstairs). Everyone is invited. If you have any rights of way issues that you want discussed, then please come along or speak to any committee member.

MEETINGS

January’s meeting was very well attended. Norma Grubb from the Irish Draught Horse Society gave us an entertaining and interesting talk about the Irish Draught Horse, its origins, uses, breed specifications and showing. Norma is a respected breeder, producer and county judge. The juniors enjoyed her talk with them before the main meeting.

Norma will be back on 19th April to give us tips on showing and ring craft.

February Monthly Meeting

On 22nd February, John Millar from Green, Greaves and Thompson will be giving us a talk on the anatomy of the lower leg. This will include a leg dissection. We have been assured that this will not be gory, bloody or horrible in any way. This should give us all an interesting insight into lower leg problems. John will be bringing plenty pairs of gloves for those of you that want to have a closer look!

March Monthly Meeting

22nd March

Martin Dewar – Horse Dealer

Tips on buying a horse/pony.

CELEBRITY SPEAKER – 17TH MAY

Karen Dixon MBE will be our celebrity speaker this year. We expect this meeting to be very popular and as a result, we will need to issue tickets in advance. Numbers are limited to 80 due to the capacity of the Old White Lion. Tickets will be £3 for members and £6 for non-members. Junior members wishing to remain for Karen’s talk will also have to purchase a ticket. Tickets will be available for sale at the March and April Meetings from Fiona or by sending a cheque and SAE to The Old Barn, Clough Lane, Oakworth, Keighley, BD22 7HP.

HUNTER TRIAL – 22nd MAY 2005

Based on last year’s success, we have booked Craven Country Ride for our annual hunter trial. There will be 3 classes:

Novice – 2`0” course – ideal for children and beginners

Open – max height 2`9” – fences will be nice and inviting!

Pairs – a fun class for all.

Entry fees are £10 for members and £15 for non members for the novice and open classes and £5 per rider for the pair’s class. Schedules will be distributed in March.

Volunteers are required to help with stewarding the course, so if you’re not riding and would like to come along and help, we would love to hear from you!!

DRESSAGE

The 1st Dressage League competition of 2005 will be held on 19th March at Highfield House Farm, Oldfield. Entry forms are enclosed. The tests are Fledglings, P4 and P18. Complete copies of all the tests used in our 2005 League are available in a laminated booklet at the monthly meeting or from Pat or Fiona.
