HAWORTH AND OXENHOPE DISTRICT BRIDLEWAYS GROUP

JANUARY 2005 ISSUE 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR MEMBERS!

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2005. We hope that you all had a peaceful Christmas and managed to get in some riding in the recent dreadful weather.

We have got a packed calendar of events lined up for you this year, with guest speakers, dressage tests, pleasure rides, hunter trail, annual show and lots more beside!

BRIDLEWAYS UPDATE

Altar Lane

It has been reported that there has been some more rubbish tipped at the top of Altar Lane. Gill will be contacting the council to get it cleared away.

PAST EVENTS

Jacks Christmas Ride

Only 2 riders managed to brave the horrible weather for our annual Christmas Ride. However, more of our members met at The George in Cullingworth to raise a glass or two in memory of Jack.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

The presentation night was very well attended. The new venue of Holden Hall at Oakworth proved to be very popular. Everybody had a lovely time dancing the night away and eating the lovely food prepared by the committee.

The following awards were awarded

Achievement award-Peter Hill

Most Improved Junior-Katy Hedges

Most Improved Senior-Amanda Oates

Most Enthusiastic Junior-Robert Hudson

Most Supportive Member-Nicky Hedges

Well done to everyone!

MEETINGS

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 18th January at the Old White Lion. Our speaker this month is Norma Grubb from the Irish Draught Horse Society. Norma is a well respected breeder and producer of Irish Draught Horses and a County level judge.

The proceeds of the raffle this month will be donated to the Tsunami Disaster Fund.

The February meeting will be a talk by John from Green, Greaves and Thompson about lameness and the lower leg. John has kindly agreed to video a dissection to give us all a better insight into the structure of the lower leg.

DRESSAGE COMPETITION

Following the continued success of our 2004 Dressage League, we are holding 4 competitions this year. Entry forms will be available at the monthly meeting - £5 per test open to members only. Points will be awarded for those placed from 1st to 5th. In addition, points are also awarded for attendance (regardless of placing) Rosettes will be awarded to ALL juniors. Complete laminated sets of all the tests we hold will be available at the meetings for £1.50.

JUNIOR CORNER

Sunday, 9th December saw our Christmas Dog Show. Although we didn’t have a huge turnout, we all had an enjoyable day! Our judge, Barbara Jagger, was impressed with the good health and condition of all the pooches involved.

We had a cracking turnout of juniors for the Christmas Gymkhana, and great fun was had by all!

Our Fun In Hand Show was unfortunately cancelled on January 9th, due to the dreadful weather conditions. We have decided to try for Sunday 16th January instead. Please ring Janice on 07813 810666 the day before to check

We have our Fun Ridden Show to come in February. I will let you know when a date has been confirmed.

RIDE FOR MILES

Our 2004 ride for miles scheme was a great success. Our 2005 ride for miles kicks off in April with Jane’s Spring Ride.

MEMBERSHIP

Memberships are due again. Subs for the year are £6 for adults, £4 for juniors and £10 for the family. I’m sure that you will agree that this is very good value.
