HAWORTH AND OXENHOPE DISTRICT BRIDLEWAYS GROUP

www.hodbg.org MARCH 2006

SPRING IS NEARLY HERE - THE LONG DRAG OF WINTER IS NEARLY OVER. NOT LONG UNTIL WE CHANGE THE CLOCKS!!!!!

PAST EVENTS

Our January meeting was Pilates for Horse riders by Teresa Calder. Pilates is a unique system of body conditioning that stretches and strengthens the core muscles. We all had a chance to have our posture assessed. Teresa runs courses of 6 lessons which costs £51 for 6 lessons. Call Teresa on 07751 392462 for details.

Julie and Kate from Crossgates Homeopathic Practice came in Febuary to talk to us about homeopathic remedies for horses. Everyone that came received a free introductory pack which contained a sample of Arnica which can be used for the treatment of bruises on horses and humans. They also talked about their diagnostic techniques, including the hair testing process to develop a specific remedy for your horse.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

On March 21st we have arranged for an evening of side saddle information from Janet Senior, Chairman of the Yorkshire Area of the Side Saddle Association. Janet will bring side saddles and turnout and talk about the art of riding side saddle.

In April we have planned for the current UK Le Trec Champions Elaine Greenwood and Carolyn Hird-Rogers to talk to us about Le Trec and their experiences. We will be treated to a slide show and general information with a question and answer session.

For the May meeting, we are hoping to have a representative from The Fell Pony society to talk to us.

BRIDLEWAYS NEWS

Bridleway Report by Gill Hill

The Pegasus Horse Crossing at the Junction of the Cullingworth turn off on Halifax Road at the Keighley end of Denholme (the former Five Flags junction) is progressing rapidly. This crossing completes the structural part of the new Pennine Bridleway Feeder Route. The next stage is signage of the route then a grand opening this summer. Watch this space as the Rights Of Way dept. at Brad Met wants our Group to be involved with the grand opening. The R O W dept. have been working hard to get this route up and running, upgrading former ‘grey’ areas to full bridleway status i.e. Stones Moor, and improving other parts along the way such as Hallas Bridge which now has new kicking boards and a wider space for manoeuvring large horses.

Isle Lane is all but complete, just the final legal bit is crawling on at the usual snails pace, as is route 206 in Oxenhope. This ‘non’ information is just to let you all know that your committee is keeping on top of progress, rather like a terrier worrying a rat. Your committee relies on you to let us know of any problems you encounter while out and about on your horses and ponies. I tend to collect any information together to forward to Brad Met but all your committee are bridleways officers, so just contact whoever you like and the information will be forwarded to either myself or Pat Greenwood who has this wonderful relationship with the Waterboard, who control much of our moorland.

The Middle gate on Deanfields has been broken (again), this has been reported and it has been suggested that a hunting catch is fitted instead.

The lighter nights are just around the corner and we will all be out and about more also the monthly pleasure rides will be starting up, make sure you have your ‘Ride for miles’ card ready. See Fiona if you haven’t got one yet.
