We have an action packed 2006 ahead of us, with guest speakers, dressage, hunter trial, annual Show, pleasure rides, monthly meetings and much more!!!! Keep reading your newsletter and come along to the meetings to keep abreast of our latest events.

Jacks Christmas Ride Tues 27 Dec

A handful of riders braved the wintry weather for our annual Christmas ride. Pat led the ride from Oxenhope while others from the Long Lee end met up at The George in Cullingworth to raise a glass or two in memory of Jack.

Dressage to music Sunday 1st January

The dressage to music had to be rearranged due to the dreadful weather conditions between Christmas and New Year. This was well attended even though one or two people were nursing a slight hangover! See our website for photos.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

Our first monthly meeting will be held on January 24th at the Old White Lion, Main Street, Haworth at 8pm.

The talk this month by Teresa Calder and is all about Pilates for horse riders. Pilates is a unique system of body conditioning that stretches and strengthens the core muscles to improve flexibility, balance, breathing, posture and alignment - all factors important in horse riding. Pilates also helps to prevent injury and aids rehabilitation following injury (Particularly back injuries).

On February 21st Crossgates Homeopathic Practice will be coming to talk to us about homeopathic remedies for horses. Everyone that comes will receive a free introductory pack which will contain a sample of Arnica which can be used for the treatment of bruises on horses and humans. They will also talk about their diagnostic techniques. This should be a very interesting evening for all.

On March 21st we have arranged for an evening of side saddle information from Janet Senior, Chairman of the Yorkshire Area of the Side Saddle Association. Janet will bring side saddles and turnout and talk about the art of riding side saddle.

In April we have planned for the UK Le Trec Champion to talk to us about Le Trec and her experiences. Details of that will be published in the next newsletter.

BRIDLEWAYS NEWS

Bradford Council has begun work on the Five Flags – Manywells junction crossing!

If anyone has any bridleways problems please contact Gill Hill or any committee member.

RIDE FOR MILES

The Ride for Miles scheme will be up and running again this year. The first ride will be Jane’s Spring Ride on Sunday 23rd April with the usual long or short options. The short ride option will be different this year and will incorporate the new bridleway over Hewenden Viaduct. The ride will start between 10.30 and 11am from Jane’s at Manywells, Cullingworth. Ask Jane for directions at the monthly meeting if you don’t know where it is.

This year we have introduced a new ride called ‘Pats New Gate Ride’! This will incorporate all the bridletracks around the conduit that have been upgraded and been provided with new gates. We are also tightening up on the rules for Ride for Miles. You must ride on the designated date and time and have your card signed on the day by the Marshall in order to accrue the miles. Cards will be available on payment of annual subscriptions.

DRESSAGE LEAGUE

Our ever popular Dressage League will be running again this year. Entry forms will be available at the monthly meeting - £5 per test open to members only. Points will be awarded for those placed from 1st to 5th. In addition, points are also awarded for attendance (regardless of placing) Rosettes will be awarded to ALL juniors. This competition is open to unaffiliated horses only. Any horse which has ever competed at affiliated level is not eligible. Complete laminated sets of all the tests we hold will be available at the March meeting for £1.50.

MEMBERSHIP

Memberships are due again. Subs for the year are £6 for adults, £4 for juniors and £10 for the family. I’m sure that you will agree that this is very good value.

Subs can be paid at January or February meetings or send to Margaret O’Neil, The Briggs, Providence Lane, Oakworth, West Yorkshire, BD22 7QR.

We held our Christmas Gymkhana the following week, which was great fun. The juniors paired up to earn their rosettes as a partnership, and worked very well together.  The most enjoyable game, for me, not the kids taking part! was the Flour Race. It provided much hilarity for the spectators to watch as they had to get a malteser out of a pile of flour using only their mouth!! Consequently, they got themselves absolutely covered in white flour!

Unfortunately, as I was so busy, I was unable to keep a track of all the results! But those who took part know who they are and what they got, so a big pat on the back and well done to you.

I would like to thank all those whom gave up their time to help, and especially to Pam and Louise Mellin who provided us all with scrummy sausage rolls and home made buns!

Now I am out if hospital and back in action, please watch out for our next event!!! I will try and let you all know in plenty of time.

Luv Janice
