The group was founded in 1976 with the main objective of working towards preserving our local bridleways network for the benefit of our members. Over the years we have evolved to host monthly meetings on topics of interest to all horse riders, monthly rides and most recently competition events in dressage and hunter trials to cater for the needs of our membership. Our main aim however remains the preservation of our bridleways. In 2026 the definitive map will be declared complete by the council and it will no longer be possible to claim routes that are not designated bridleway status. It is in our interest to work hard now to ensure that all of our routes are firmly secured as bridleways prior to this date. Did you know that it can take up to fifteen years for the council to change the staus of a path from footpath to bridleway? Hence 2026 is not that far way! Our Group holds meetings bi-monthly to address rights of way issues and all members are welcome to attend.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR BRIDLEWAY NETWORK COME AND SUPPPORT OUR MEETINGS AND WORK TOWARDS PRESERVING OUR BRIDLEWAYS FOR THE FUTURE.

We hold monthly rides from April to October every year. These rides showcase the best of our bridleway network. Our network covers a beautiful area throughout Bronte Country and beyond. Routes under our care include all bridleways in Keighley, Oakworth, Haworth, Oxenhope, Denholme and Cullingworth. Look at our 'Monthly Rides' link to find out when our next ride is and please come and support us. All riders are provided with detailed directions and a map and an escort can be provided if necessary. We also have a 'Ride for Miles' scheme whereby riders accrue mileage for each ride on a special card and at the end of the year we award special rosettes to riders with the most miles. In any case all riders get a rosette for taking part!
Due to popular demand we hold an annual 'Dressage League'. We hold four competitions throughout the year and points are awarded for attendance and placings. The first and second prizewinners are awarded trophies at our annual presentation night. The competitions are open to all non-affiliated horses and riders and are ideal for all ages with a special 'Fledglings' class for under elevens. Come and have a go!
Every year we hold a Hunter Trial in May. Our venue is Craven Country Ride in Coniston Cold near Skipton. We have a novice course ideally suited to children and beginners at a maximum height of 2' and an open course for the more experience riders at a maximum height of 2'9". See our 'Hunter Trial' page for more details of this year's event.
