Local Bridleway updates

Aug 10 - Road crossing between St. Ives and Harden Moor
Some reflective posts have gone up on the road crossing between St Ives Estate and Harden Mor to make it more obvious to drivers where the horses cross the road. We're not sure if this is enough to warn drivers and safe guard horses and riders. Local riders let us know how you find this please by contacting a committee member and wee will see what we can do.

Aug 10 - Broadhead Lane
We are still having gate problems at Broadhead Lane, different gates this month but the ROW dept are trying to sort out soem improvements with the farmer.

Aug 10 - Yorkshire Water Authority land at Bully Trees
The gate (next to the cattle grid) on YWA land at Buly Trees which had dropped has been fixed.

Aug 10 - Flappit bridleway at keighley/Halifax Road
The portable loo and boulder which were blocking the bridleway whcih comes out near flappit on the keighley/Halifax road, have gone.Unfortunately the bridleway sign also seems to have gone too. Hopefully a new on is planned?

Aug 10 - New tracks a foot?
Bev Parker has now carried out some investigations on the 6 initial tracks and thecommittee will be meeting later this month in eager anticipation of good news.

Aug 10 - Isle Lane Oxenhope
Isle Lane is rideable although the diversion around Lower Isle Farm has not been finished because of an old electric cable found on the route. But it shouldn't be long now before it's finished. For the time being please ride across the front of the house over the chippings, then turn right and pick up the proper route again. NB It is a better ride going uphill as parts of the track are quite steep. Also there are some small pigs in a field opposite the top of the first grassy rise. The residents have asked that we stay on the now newly surfaced track instead of riding on the moor at the side because of the nesting game birds.

Aug 10 - Manywells bridleway access
After a meeting at Manywells about the narrow entrance to the bridleway, the fence has been moved back. We have had no complaints so far so presume it is now OK for everyone.

Jan 10 - Road crossing between St. Ives and Harden Moor
Bradford Met have devised several safety measures for the road crossing between St Ives Estate and Harden Moor to make drivers more aware of the position of the crossing and they should be put in place soon. If these measures are not suffiecient more could be done at a later date depending on finance available.

Jan 10 - Bridleway 56 - Goose Eye
Fencing work has been done to seperate riders form the deep drop on Bridleway 56 (which goes from Goose Eye to Todley Hall Road) and also strengthening up of the barbed wire fencing further along which had become very sloppy.

Jan 10 - Deanfields track
We have reported that the bottom gate on the Deanfileds track is difficult to open and the ROW dept will be looking at it soon.

Nov 09 - Kennel Lane- Oxenhope
Bradford Met have recently done some work on kennel Lane, Oxenhope area cutting back bracken, and rebuilding walls.

Nov 09 - St Ives and Harden Moor
Concern has been raised about the road crossing between St Ives Estate and Harden Moor becasue of the bad visibility for drivers and there have been several near misses. This has already been on the agenda of the bradford Met Rights of Way Forum meeting and a solution is being sought.
The next forum meeting is in early Novemenr and we will make them aware how worried we are about this.

Nov 09 - Bridleway 56 - Goose-eye
The possibility of fencing on Bridleways 56 which goes from Goose Eye to Todley Hall Road is being discussed as there is a deep drop down into a garden on the left on a narrow part of this track.

July 09 - Warning on slippery surface on Dark lane - Oxenhope
The bottom end of Dark Lane in oxenhope has recently been resurfaced and we are aware that it is very slippery.
We have spoken to Bradford Met and they say the surfacing has been done to spec.
Maybe the recent heavy rain may have improved things but we need to be told what problems you are having so that we gat the full picture.
There is a special kind of surfacing which cna be used in very difficult situations.

July 09 - Warning on boggy New Bronte Waterfalls permissive track
Yorkshire Water have opened a permissive track which goes towards Bronte Waterfalls over Haworth Moor, bears left and goes to Romsgreave.
However there have been 2 incidents of horses getting into the bog, one of them just before all this recent rain when the ground elsewhere was rock hard.
We have spoken to Alistair Harvey at YWA and he says they would love to drain it but it is an SSSI and they need permissiions from natural England. Until this work has been done it would be wise to give it a miss.

New mounting block - Great Northern trail
Our third mounting block is now in place at the southern end of the Great Northern trail. It is on the railway bridge where you turn off the trail to continue up Station Road towards Harecroft.
People have been having difficulties there with the gate which tries to close itself before your horse has got completely through it.

Gates fixed - Trough Lane
The two gates which come off Black Moor onto Trough Lane have been fixed by Bradford Met.

Status of passage - Oakworth
From time to time people have queried the status of the track which runs along Race Moor Lane in Oakworth, round Moor pond, alongside 'Wild Fell' onto Slaymaker Lane.
My contact at Bradford Met has confirmed that is is included on the Council's Street list so we are quite entitles to use it.
Margaret has sawn the bush down which was narrowing the gap between the wall and the boulder at the Slaymaker Lane end.
However, we are NOT allowed to ride in Oakworth Park, please do NOT do this.

Bridleway crossed by 35,000 ton waggons
The council have submitted plans which will affect the bridleway which goes from the top of Manywells past the tip to Hallas Lane.
The submitted plan is to transport 35,000 tons of fill in wagons, across the bridleway to another site.
It could take weeks or maybe years.
The committee will be looking into this and we have until 30th April to lodge any objections.

Mirror to aid crossing Cullingwoth Road
We are also looking into the possibility of siting a mirror at the Hallas Lane end to aid visibility when crossing Cullingworth Road.
